Annual Status of Education Report (ASER )  2020  is an annual survey published by education non profit organization - Pratham  for the last 15 years .this year, the survey was conducted via phone calls. let's know all facts about ASER and its aim.

Current news about it 

Annual State of Education Report (ASER) Survey has been released which provide a glimpse into the levels of learning loss that students in rural India are suffering . ASER 2020 is the first ever phone -based ASER Survey and it was conducted in September 2020.

Aim :-  The report aim to provide reliable estimates of children's enrolment and basic learning levels for each district and state in India .


Major highlights  of this survey : impact of Covid-19 pandemic
  • ASER 2020 was conducted in 26 states and four union territories
  • A total of 52,227 households and 59,251 children in the 5 -16 age group were surveyed. 
  • The phone- based survey  was done in September ,the sixth month of national school closure.
  • About 20% of rural children  have no text book at home 
  • In Andhra Pradesh , less than 35% students had textbooks  and only 60% had textbook in Rajasthan, more than 98% had textbook in West Bengal , Nagaland and Assam .
  • About one in three rural children had done no learning activity at all . two in three had no learning material , only one in 10 had access to live online classes . 
  • suspension of physical classes since the lockdown in March , there is a marked rise in students not being enrolled , either they dropped out ,or because it was not possible to get admitted. 
  • 5.5% rural students are not enrolled in the school .
  • the enrolment of boys in 2018 were 62.8% which is increased to 66.4% in 2020 and the enrolment of girls increased 70% to 73% in this year .
  • ASER 2020 is the first ever phone-based ASER survey and it was conducted in September 2020
  • 3% of rural children aged 6-10 years had not yet enrolled in school this year , in comparison to just 1.8% in 2018 .
  • Enrolment patterns also show a slight shift toward government schools , with private schools  seeing a drop in enrolment in all age groups .

  • in 2018 ASER had data on enrollment patterns in age group 4 to 8 .
